How is it possible not to fear bad news? I just read today’s newspaper from top to bottom—bad news everywhere. Nations are in conflict. Racial tension is high. Politics has found a new low. Can it be that I am called not to fear? How can that be possible? Yet the Psalmist said of God’s people,
He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Psalm 112:7(NIV)
When I confidently trust God in my circumstances fear has no power over me. Trusting Him frees my heart to reflect the light of God rather than the darkness of the world.
Even in the darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. Psalm 112:4 (NIV)
