When God wants to achieve His eternal purposes, he looks for ordinary people who will be faithfully obedient. Look at a shepherd boy sent to kill a giant (I Samuel 17:1- 25:7) and even a prostitute to help save His people (Joshua 2 and 6:22-23). I am baffled—just ordinary people.

In the midst of this Covid-19 pandemic many ordinary healthcare workers are doing extraordinary things. Fatigued and stressed they labor on. Many of these workers are our brothers and sisters who are showing and sharing the love of Jesus. Brothers and sisters in countries hostile to Christianity are sharing at the bedside too, all at great risk. God is using them all to accomplish His eternal purposes.

A respiratory therapist I know works in a New Jersey hospital. After her shifts at the hospital she comes home to make mask covers so that her co-workers can reuse and extend the use of their N-95 masks. A simple task made extraordinary by her diligence and made eternal when done in the name of Jesus.

God prepares in advance good works for me to do.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

The good works that God has prepared may be small such as acts of kindness. Or they may be big, like working long hours in a hospital.

This week, would you join me in looking for what has been prepared in advance for us to do for the sake of Jesus?

Sharing the journey with you,

Bob Snyder
