In the United States we come together on the fourth Thursday of November for Thanksgiving Day. This tradition traces back to the early 17th century when the Pilgrims celebrated the fruits of harvest and the blessings of the past year. Those who sowed the crops and those who reaped the crops came together giving thanks.
Celebrating the spiritual harvest with a time of thanksgiving has many similarities. Jesus, talking to his disciples said,
Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. (John 4:36 NIV)
On this Thanksgiving Day, may we be glad together!
