A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34 NIV
As I read these words of Jesus I realize that He defines a new kind of love – a love that is like His love for me. This love is much different than the world’s love. When I love as the world loves, it can focus on me and my loving behavior for which I appreciate the comments and accolades of others.
The love to which Jesus calls me is to love others from the heart, with my very being as a Christ follower. It has nothing to do with me, but everything to do with the beloved. This love is unconditional and sacrificial – impossible without the love of God flowing through me.
