I was curious how a father from our church motivated his teenaged children to mow the lawn and do errands for an elderly neighbor. Asking how He encouraged his children to serve, he replied, "We are Johnsons – that is what Johnson’s do. It is just that simple." Serving was a family characteristic.
Who we are shapes what we do? Being a member of the family of God impacts everything I do or don’t do…or at least it should! John confirms my family relationship saying…
Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 NIV
I may not be a child of Mr. Johnson, but I am a child of God. My family relationship defines my character and actions.
Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10 NIV
