As a former college soccer player (…….years ago!), it was a treat to hear the present coach speak about my alma mater’s recent successes. This coach's unique ability to blend the individual skills, the experience and the character of his players has produced 5 national championships in 7 years – evidence of amazing teamwork.

My years of playing soccer (and later rugby in medical school) provided opportunity to taste the value of teamwork. The thrill of accomplishment carried the deep understanding that no matter who kicked the goal, it could not have happened without the collective whole – the team.

Later, I found that practicing emergency medicine exposed the critical nature of teamwork. Working together for a common purpose could mean the difference between life and death. And in marriage, I am continually amazed at the necessity for a "team mentality".

Interestingly, Jesus also longed for a spirit of team in the spiritual lives of His followers. He prayed,

…that they will be of one heart and mind, just as you and I are, Father… ( John 17 :21)

Paul even refers to believers as being …laborers together with God… (I Cor. 3:9). To think that we are on God’s Team! The results are not national championships but something even better – wins of eternal consequence. Go Team!!!

Sharing the journey with you,
