Learning from Jesus’ Questions – Why Don’t You Understand?

Speaking to Nicodemus, Jesus said,

"You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don't understand these things?" John 3:10 NLT

Jesus could have been speaking to me, asking, "Bob, you are my follower. You have gone to church for many years and listened to many sermons…and yet you do not understand these things?"

Jesus continued, telling Nicodemus about the importance of a new birth into the family of God. This new birth was not a subtle change but life-giving and life-transforming. My thinking, my identity, and my actions are all new. My focus changed from the womb of earthly thinking and living to a new birth into Heavenly understanding and purpose. I even wonder, "What was my soul's first cry at this Heavenly birth?"

Please, dear Jesus, give us a greater understanding of the joy that new birth brings. Make it fresh every morning. Amen.
