Thoughts about family, work and life often cascade through my mind. As a result, I occasionally find myself arriving home and not remembering how I got there. Not a good or safe way to operate a car – not paying attention.

The same situation, at times, occurs during conversation. As a discussion starts, my mind begins to mobilize thoughts and ideas to add to the dialogue. As a result, I fail to pay careful attention to what the other person is saying – not a good or safe way to communicate.

Zedekiah, king of Judah, had a similar problem.

"Neither he nor his attendants nor the people of the land paid any attention to the words the Lord had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet." (Jeremiah 37:2 NIV)

The results were disastrous! Not paying attention to God led to the captivity of the children of Israel by the Babylonians and the destruction of Jerusalem.

Not paying attention while driving or conversing can have consequences. However, not paying attention to God has eternal repercussions.

This week join me in seeking God – listening and responding.

Sharing the journey with you,
