I just returned from New Zealand — rugby heaven. While I was there New Zealand played South Africa. The All-Blacks (New Zealand) won. The next day everyone was talking about the victory. No one has to teach a native of New Zealand how to talk rugby! It is their first love and they talk about it naturally.
I began to think, why is so hard to talk about my first love, Jesus? I can talk about sports so easily but I often come up short when I want to talk about Jesus to those who don’t believe. Jesus’ last words to his disciples were
…you will be my witnesses…(Acts 1:8)
Empowered by the Holy Spirit, this feeble, fearful group of disciples began talking about Jesus courageously. Jesus had become their first love.
I want to be bold like those disciples. If sports fans can to talk about their first love, then we can talk about our First Love. Join me this week.
