My friend is mentoring a disadvantaged boy who wants to be a doctor. We discussed character traits that would be key in this boy’s development. I told my friend that moments of teachability were crucial in my own character development. However, I must admit that there were times when I was not teachable. Over the years I have learned that teachability grows from the seed of humility — an even rarer character trait for me.
Could this be part of my issue with learning from God? Must a humble attitude precede a teachable moment? The Psalmist says,
He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way.
(Psalm 25:9 NIV)
Is there any hope for me? King David in spite of himself and the frailty of his character knew there was hope as he cried out,
Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. (Psalm 86:11 NIV)
Will you join me this week in learning from God as we humbly submit to His Will in His Way?
Sharing the journey with you,
