Peering from the perspective of today, November 6, 2008, the future looks perilous. Political turmoil around the world coupled with global economic instability makes the options of:
- Optimism – expressed in wishful thinking, or
- Pessimism – expressed in hopelessness and cynicism seem tenuous at best. Even as an optimist, I find myself pessimistic.
But the writer of Hebrews suggests a better way,
"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf." (Hebrews 6:19 NIV)
This hope is not attached to the circumstances in my world or the issues of my personal life. Rather it is connected to Jesus who is the stabilizing force in the midst of life's storms.
This week, rather than wishful thinking or blind cynicism, will you join me by faith trusting in the One who promises to anchor our souls?
Sharing the journey with you,
